Quvenzhané Wallis

Beasts-Of-The-Southern-Wild-UK-poster-19-October-Release-Date

So many films, so little time. It sounds like this one is worth seeing. Beasts of the Southern Wild took the Sundance Film Festival by storm and has garnered a dizzying array of coveted awards, no small feat for an Indie film. What’s more, the main actress, Quvenzhané Wallis has been nominated for Best Actress. She is the youngest person ever nominated for an Academy Award at nine years old. How cool is that?

The film is no longer showing in theatres but there are numerous ways to get a hold of it. Check out their blog here.

  1. Beasts of the Southern Wild was perhaps one of the most impressionable films that I’ve seen in a long time. I became so endeared to Hushpuppy that I didn’t want to leave the movie theatre when the film ended. I also wanted to delve more into the characters who played her mother who had gone away and her dad. I plan to own my copy of this film.

Here’s what I wrote originally: “Radically different from anything I’ve seen onscreen in a long time. Wildly unpredictable, and certainly left up to several interpretations. Beautifully affecting. ”

    Hushpuppy!

    1. Morning Empress,

What a big kudos coming from you! People keep raving at me about it, so very heartwarming. This lets me know that they got it right! I will jubilant if she gets the Oscar, truly :).

I’ve been ranting for 3 days about the quality of the films that AA’s have received Oscars for. It seems like most of the Black actors who are awarded Oscars receive them for roles that reinforce negative, racialized stereotypes i.e.Training Day, Monster’s Ball, The Help. Having been told that her performance and the movie are stellar, I’m positively itching to get my hands on it 🙂

      Netflix here I come!

flix and get it because I’m sooo curious.

  2. Saw this in the theatres. It’s an impressive and important movie. And so imaginative! I was planning to write a post on aurochs (that’s the singular form strangely enough) which was a real creature. The filmmaker made a great link between aurochs and global warming.

If you see the movie, let me know after and I’ll share a really cute / funny link having to do with the aurochs. Can’t tell you now as it’s sort of a spoiler.

I love it when you comment...
